Saturday night was going to be kind of slow, kind of gloomy. A lot of people were gone for the weekend so there were only a couple of us left behind to experience the magic of Florence on this quiet evening. Well we shouldn’t have been surprised this city wasn’t quiet like our night. Kate, Molly and I decided to go to Gusta Pizza, for my second time might I add. I couldn’t resist, it’s just so delicious my mouth is watering thinking about it.
We looked it up and found out it opens back up for dinner again at 7 so we left around that time and got there at 7:09 expecting to get in right away. Wrong. There was a line out the door, but we were willing to wait because we were in no rush and clearly this meant it’s some good pizza, which I can confirm. I had to get it a second time just to be sure.

When it came time to seat us with our pizzas, he said we could sit at table that was half full, three other girls that looked about our age sat on the other side. I don’t think we could’ve waited any longer to eat these delicious works of art making us drool so we sat. “Ciao!” they all said while we said it back. I assumed they were Italian, but seconds after one asked, “Are you guys American too?” We all responded in unison, “yes!” This was the beginning of a dinner of taking chances that we didn’t expect to be so positive.
We ended up talking the entire dinner, barely able to get our pizza down and oddly enough not mad about it. It was a split second where we had taken and a chance and sat down for a meal with three strangers only to end up kind of making friends. We all ended up having connections with hometowns and people we knew at their school and nice versus. We even exchanged texts about recommendations on where to eat and places you have to see. Who knew something so positive could come out of a simple pizza with strangers? Not me that’s for sure.
That night ended up not being so slow or gloomy since we’d made a connection with three girls studying abroad, just like us. It was pretty cool to be in such a foreign place and by chance meet these people we never would of met otherwise if we hadn’t taken a chance.
